2008年4月24日凌晨,我国篮坛著名球员、教练员钱澄海在北京不幸逝世,他与骨癌顽强抗争了近7年,享年74岁。钱澄海,1934年生于浙江鄞县,1952年入选中南海军篮球队,帮助球队获得中南地区篮球赛冠军、全军篮球赛第三名。1955年调入八一男子篮球队,1956年入选国家队,同年成为第一批国家篮球运动健将。钱澄海司职后卫,长期担任国家队队长。他出色的组织能力和精湛的技艺,以及球场内外一身正气的大将风度,使他与队友杨伯镛一样,成为当年最为球迷喜爱、颇受贺龙元帅赏识的球星。退役后,他执教中国男篮16年,是新中国历史上执教国家队时间最长的篮球教练,在他执教期间,中国男篮逐步确立了亚洲霸主地位,并开始向世界劲旅发起冲击。钱澄海的陨落,是中国篮坛的巨大损失。匡鲁彬(篮管中心国家队管理部部长)作为钱老的得意弟子之一,在钱老走后接受了本刊专访,沉痛悼念自己的恩师。
