Objective To investigate the nutrition risk and malnutrition of critically ill children and provide basis for clinical nutrition support. Methods Nutritional risk screening of 326 critically ill hospitalized children was carried out using STRONG kids scale 2010, and nutritional status of children was assessed by physical measurement. Results 326 patients were completed STRONG kids screening, the incidence of nutritional risk and malnutrition were 51.53% (168 cases) and 23.01% (75 cases) respectively. The incidence of nutritional risk and malnutrition in digestive diseases were higher than other (P <0.05). The children in the case group were divided into three groups according to the level of critically ill patients: The incidence of nutritional risk in critically ill patients was significantly higher than that in the other two groups (P <0.01). Conclusions The incidence of nutritional risk and malnutrition in critically ill children is high. STRONG kids’ score can be used to screen nutritional risk in critically ill children, and reasonable nutritional support should be given as early as possible.
