在现代重型机器制造业中遇到的度量衡学课题中,测量壳体零件的孔系同轴度误差,占有特殊的地位,这类壳体零件,其外形尺寸很大,质量很重。当孔与孔之间距离达到1000毫米时,这种测量可以用便携式的机械装置来实现,而当距离更大时,可以用IIII-11(IIIIC-12)型光学仪器、型微调望远镜等来测量。但是,在生产条件下使用这类仪器,需要花费很长的时间对这种调试仪器进行安装和调试以及把光束瞄准到目标上等等。
