绘画史,顾名而思义,绘画(艺术)之历史也。“绘画”与“历史”组成一个复合词,包含了两个概念,一个是绘画,一个是历史。因此,研究和论述绘画史的人对两者的内涵由于有不同的理解,就会得出不相同的结论。比如,曾有人把绘画(艺术)视作“阶级斗争的工具”,不然就是坏艺术或不是艺术。从这样的观点去看中国绘画史,就会全盘否定全部绘画史。因为中国的传统绘画绝大部分都未能“为阶级斗争服务”,如有,也只是为统治阶级政治服务的 History of painting, Gu names and meanings, painting (art) history also. “Painting” and “history” form a compound word, which includes two concepts, one is painting and one is history.
