创造舒适的居住环境和对传统家具的憧憬尽管日本的“西洋化”主要是以美国为模特儿,介绍了很多美国的经济、文化、生活等方面的情况,但日本并不熟悉美国的家具,对美国的家具和居住生活方面了解甚少。这真是个奇妙的错觉,两国在居住方式的要求上还有着基本的区别。美国的住宅情况——买房子容易美国中产家庭男主人的年收入约一万五千美元,相当于四百万日元左右。然多为夫妇共同工作,因此整个家庭的收入也更多些。由于美国人拜金意识极强,人生享乐的意识也很强,这决定了让主妇参加工作。几年前的妇女解放运动也起了作用,使女性的职业范围之广,达到了日本所想象不到的程度。
