1946年,为纪念国民党爱国将领伍观淇(字庸伯)先生的抗日战功,发展禺北地区的教育事业,经禺北地方知名人士江广材(时任花县县长)、黄佐(原劬勤师范学校校长)、周憩颂(原合群汽车公司总经理)倡议并确定在江高地区建立一间纪念中学,命名为“私立庸伯中学”。当时校址设在江村乡德堂(江村大祠堂),时任校长是江广材。1950年初,禺北办事处接管庸伯中学、德基中学,并改名为禺北初级中学,罗仕骥先生任校长。同年9月,番禺县人民政府正式接管学校,命名为番禺县第四中学,时任江村区长的周伯尧先生兼任校长,学校走上公办发展之路。1951年冬,时任番禺县县长的陈江天先生来校视察,选中了现在这块位于流溪河畔、江夏岭旁的
