And his personal rich experience, and the correlation of these experiences with all aspects of Britain in the nineteenth century, have received less attention. This article attempts to re-evaluate Dreiser’s multiple identities by reevaluating Dreiser’s status as a pioneer of modern design and to explore the linkages between design practices and the design industry and design markets in the specific historical context of the 19th century.
