Blocking the arterial-induced blood flow-mediated vasodilation is a valid measure of NO-dependent endothelial function, but this vasodilatation is impaired in patients with type 2 diabetes. Sildenafil is a 5-phosphodiesterase inhibitor for ED patients with multiple etiologies, including type 2 diabetes. However, the effects of sildenafil on vascular endothelial function in these patients have not been evaluated experimentally. To this end, Desouza C et al conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial to evaluate the immediate and long-term effects of low-dose sildenafil (25 mg) on blood-mediated vasorelaxation in patients with type 2 diabetes. Sixteen patients with type 2 diabetes (14 of whom completed the trial) were enrolled and did not have any significant heart disease. The average arm artery diameter was 4.33 +/- 0.6 mm. After inducing a flow-mediated vasodilation, the average arm artery
