In western Germany, Sinology has mushroomed and the scene is renewed. Every year, 60-80 first-year college students learn Chinese, compared with 16-20 only ten years ago. This is a new trend. When the Chinese Premier visited China, we noticed that there was a lack of translation. The German Foreign Ministry had to translate the Chinese students and university teachers studying in West Germany to accompany the Chinese press group. Just 15 years ago, Sinology was also regarded as a detached scholarly research. When it comes to Sinology, people create such a typical impression that Lao Shui drank tea and introduced his disciples to the world of Tang poetry. Although this is somewhat exaggerated, it is not entirely unfounded. In the past, students ridiculed sinologists as “tea drinkers.” In Munich and Hamburg, only two Sinology professors, called Frank.
