From 1967 to 1974, France’s ESD (then called EMD) company designed a jammer called the ARBB 32. During this time, the company delivered two ARBB 32A prototypes. Then, between 1974 and 1979, 10 ARBB 32B jammers were produced and equipped on some of the French Navy’s major warships. However, this early system had only the ability to drag from the gate. In 1979, the ESD company began to develop a new ARBB 33 electronic scanning jammer to meet the requirements of the French Navy; prototype was delivered in 1983. The first production jammer should be completed in the second half of 1986. It is expected that eight jammers will be ordered for one or two nuclear aircraft respectively
