在历代帝王中,喜爱并精擅书艺者实不乏其人,如梁武帝萧衍、唐太宗李世民、明宣宗朱瞻基及清代乾隆帝。可以说,正是由于他们对书法的热衷,大量的前贤遗墨宝藏于宫廷并传之后世,他们对艺术品的保护、传承起到了积极的作用。另一方面,他们对艺术风格的偏好,也于特定的历史时期内在一定程度上左右着艺术潮流的发展趋势,所谓“上行下效”之现象不胜枚举。
