肉的故事艾子的邻居,都是齐国粗俗的人。一天,他听见邻居有两个人在议论。一人对另一人说:″我们与齐国的达官贵人,都是受有天、地、人三才的灵气的,但为什么他们聪明,而我们却不聪明呢?″另一个人说:″人家每天吃肉,所以聪明,我们平日粗茶淡饭,所以就不聪明。″还是第一个发话的人说:″我恰好有卖粮的钱好几千,不妨我与您每天吃肉试试。″过了几天,艾子又听见那两个人在议论。一人说:″自吃肉后,我觉得心明了,长见识了,碰到事情要处理就很有办法,不仅有办法,还能把事理说得头头是道。″另一个人说:″我现在再看人的脚,往前迈步很是方便,若是倒着往后走,还不是让后边的人踩着了。″第一个又说:″我现在也发现人的鼻孔,朝下很是有利,若是朝上,下雨的时候还不是让雨水灌了吗?″两个人在那里互相称赞彼此变得聪明了。艾子叹了口气,说″吃肉的人的聪明就是这么个样子!″———选自苏轼《艾子杂说》
