In October 2011, MAN introduced its first Euro 6 diesel engine at the bus show in Kortrik, Belgium. Although the Euro 4 and Euro 5 models are desperately advocating only exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology, MAN’s Euro 6 diesel engine combines cooling EGR with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology. MAN still refuses to say how the aircraft is meeting Euro 6 emissions limits. It appears that using EGR technology alone can not meet emission requirements while maintaining acceptable fuel consumption. Scania also came to the same conclusion as another manufacturer who advocated EGR-only strategies in Europe 4 and Europe 5.
