徐光宪院士是中国稀土化学的奠基人之一。他于1920年11月7日出生于浙江绍兴市。1951年获美国哥伦比亚大学理学博士学位,主修量子化学。回国后从事量子化学、原子簇化学、配位化学、核燃料和稀土萃取化学,以及稀土生物化学与稀土材料化学研究,并在这些领域取得重要发现。他提出了萃取机理分类法,络合物平衡的吸附理论以及原子价的新定义。尤其是在稀土科学方面,他探讨了稀土化合物的化学键与电子结构,发展了镧系理论,合成并表征了大量稀土络合物;建立并发展了稀土串级萃取理论与工艺优化设计,为中国稀土工业获取高纯度的单一稀土元素做出巨大贡献,实现了中国稀土产量的飞跃。
Academician Xu Guangxian is one of the founders of Chinese rare earth chemistry. He was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang on November 7, 1920. In 1951 by the University of Columbia doctor of science degree, majoring in quantum chemistry. After returning home to engage in quantum chemistry, atomic cluster chemistry, coordination chemistry, nuclear fuel and rare earth extraction chemistry, and rare earth biochemistry and rare earth materials chemistry, and made important discoveries in these fields. He proposed the extraction mechanism classification, adsorption theory of complex equilibrium and the new definition of atomic valence. Especially in rare earth science, he discussed the chemical bond and electronic structure of rare earth compounds, developed the theory of lanthanum series, synthesized and characterized a large number of rare earth complexes, established and developed rare earth cascade extraction theory and process optimization design for China Rare earth industry to obtain a single high-purity rare earth elements to make a significant contribution to China’s rare earth production to achieve a leap.
