嘉善中学曾经是在上海徐汇区排名几乎垫底的公办初中,1998年,随着原市重点中学上海市第二中学的初高中分离办学,嘉善中学“借壳”翻牌成为上海市第二初级中学。10余年过去了,生源主要还是周边居民的孩子,但是,如今的上海市第二初级中学,办学质量却悄然跃升全区公办初中的上游水平,每年有30%的学生考入包括“四大名校”在内的市实验性、示范性高中。奇迹的发生,很大程度上归功于坚持了10余年的市教育科研一等奖成果——“分层走班”教学管理方法。
