Objective To investigate the effect of fine particulate exposure on the detection rate of aortic valve calcification. Methods The Kailuan Group employees who were selected for the same period of medical examination were enrolled in this study. One patient with pneumoconiosis was diagnosed as exposure group and the other without dust exposure as the control group. SPSS 17.0 was used to analyze the results of echocardiography. Results The positive rate of aortic valve calcification in the exposed group was 17.8% and 12.4% respectively. Fine particle exposure is the second risk factor of aortic valve calcification after age and systolic blood pressure with OR of 1.586. Conclusions For the first time, fine particulate exposure is confirmed as an independent risk factor for aortic valve calcification.
