The gold mine at Morro de Ouro has been out of mining in 1722 and many mining development companies have re-investigated the deposit in recent years. Because of its very low grade (0.65g / t), and all give up. By 1980, PTZ acquired a favorable nature and found out that the consistent quality, the large tonnage and the favorable metallurgy were enough to offset the low grade. Construction began in 1985 and today Morro de Ouro ranks as one of the lowest and most successful gold mine in the world.
