莫伊现年72岁,是肯独立后第二任总统兼武装部队总司令、执政的肯尼亚非洲民族联盟(简称肯盟)总裁。他出生于小部族卡伦金族一个基督教农民家庭,早年就读于教会学校,1955年弃教从政,成为一名新民族主义者。1960年参与创建肯尼亚非洲民主联盟。民主联盟并入肯盟后,于1978年当选为该盟总裁。曾任副总统兼内政部长等职,倍受开国元首肯雅塔的赏识。1978年起连任四届总统,在位18年,是目前非洲执政时间最长的国家元首之一。
Moi, 72, is president of Kenya’s African National Alliance (KAM), the second president and commander of the Armed Forces after Independence. Born in a Christian peasant family of the tribe Karen Kumin, he was educated in church schools early, abandoning his education in 1955 and becoming a neo-nationalist. In 1960, he joined the Kenya Democratic Alliance for Africa. After the Democratic Alliance was incorporated into Kenya, he was elected president of the Union in 1978. Former Vice President and Minister of the Interior, much appreciated by Kenyan tower leader. In 1978, reelected for the fourth president, reigned for 18 years, is currently one of the longest executive heads of state in Africa.
