The birth of the International Geological Congress The International Geological Congress (IGC) is one of the international academic conferences with a long history, large scale and broad disciplines. It is also known as the “Olympic” in the international geoscience community. In the mid-19th century, with the rise and development of modern geology, geologists studied the forms of regular gatherings and academic exchanges that were not restricted by boundaries and administrative divisions.
