Since the 16th CPC National Congress, transportation work has been focused on the grand goal of building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way and has been making every effort to promote the scientific development of transportation. The ability to safeguard infrastructure has been markedly enhanced. The level of transport services has been markedly enhanced. Safety supervision and emergency response capabilities have been significantly strengthened. The transport landscape has undergone a new historical change, which has made an important contribution to maintaining steady and rapid economic development, ensuring and improving people’s livelihood, promoting social harmony and stability and enhancing overall national strength. I. Major Achievements in Transportation Development Traffic infrastructure has been further improved and the steady and rapid development of the national economy has been vigorously promoted. The mileage of highway traffic increased rapidly, reaching 4,016,000 kilometers by the end of 2011, of which the expressway increased from 25,000 kilometers in 2002 to 85,000 kilometers. public
