乞巧这一风俗在中国由来已久,历史上曾广为流传。但在中国从传统农业社会向现代工业社会急剧转化的今天,这一风俗在大多数地区已经明显淡化,遗风尚存的也只是在七夕之夜有一些祭拜织女星和女孩子们的乞巧活动。然而,甘肃省东南部西和县与礼县的这一传统节日风俗却保存得相当完整,并在继续大规模传承,其节日延续时间之长,流传地域之广,参与人数之多,活动内容之丰,在全国或许是绝无仅有的,可称得上是“华夏第一”。
