1952年11月8日,在美国定居的爱因斯坦收到了一封以色列总理本·古里安的来信。信中正式提请爱因斯坦为以色列共和国总统候选人。因为此前的38年里,爱因斯坦不仅是一位引导着物理革命的科学巨匠。还是犹太人民眼中的和平天使和民族英雄。不过在收到来信的当天晚上,爱因斯坦却婉言谢绝了总理的提请。理由是“关于自然,我了解一点,关于人,我几乎一点也不了解。”
On November 8, 1952, Einstein, who settled in the United States, received a letter from Israeli Prime Minister Ben Gurion. The letter formally draws Einstein as the candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Israel. For the past 38 years, Einstein was not only a science guru who led the physical revolution. Jewish people in the eyes of peace angel and national hero. However, on the night of the receipt of the letter, Einstein had declined the petition of the Prime Minister. The reason is “about nature, I know one thing, about people, I do not know anything at all.”
