随着信息时代的来临,电信产业发展迅速。近十年来中国电信高速的发展,都是在两位数地增长,占国民经济总体的直接贡献也在提高。根据信产部公布的数据,2006年底电信业务收入总额为7120.6亿元,比去年增长11.6%;电信投资完成额2186.9亿元,比去年增长7.5%;固定电话用户总计36781.2亿户,比上年新增1736.7万户;移动电话用户总计46108.2万户,比上年增长6767.7万户;互联网宽带接入用户5189.9万户,比上年增长1454.9万户;移动短信业务量4296.7亿条,比去年增长41.0%。
