This article reports the background and the tenets of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) at first.Then the writer attempts to answer the question in title by analyzing the college English teaching context in China and the purpose for teaching and learning English in colleges and universities are more explored.Next it summarizes the barriers CLT would face and delineates the advantages and disadvantages of communicative approach in the College English Teaching Context in China.
