Hughes Aircraft Company Optoelectronics Systems Branch is preparing to participate in the FAAD / LOS-R (Frontier / Backslash) program begun by the U.S. Army at the end of April 1986. The plan aims to develop as soon as possible a low-cost air defense system equipped with short-range electro-active surface-to-air missiles on a tank. Before the manufacturer of the FAAD / LOS-R plan was finalized in 1987, it is expected to conduct a certification launch in late autumn 1986 to conduct ground tests on competing weapons systems. Initially, the U.S. military plans to order about 139 FAAD / LOS-R systems in order to equip all Army divisions and light infantry divisions. General Dynamics at FAAD / LOS-R weapons
