The United States Navy’s Maritime Systems Command reported in February 2003 that the headquarters proposed a single missile development contract with Raytheon Systems. The new generation of “standard” missiles will meet both the requirements of increased range and active guidance at the same time. Raytheon Systems Company is currently the only naval-ship-to-air missile supplier to the United States Navy, providing missiles including the “Standard 2” Block IIIB Range missiles) and Block IV (extended range missiles). The company is also the only supplier of anti-aircraft missiles capable of delivering the new ship launch in fiscal year 2010, and the new missile is now known as ERAM (Extended Range Active Missile).
