北京皇城内,有一座庙,叫弘仁寺,因奉有梅檀佛,故又称梅檀寺。 梅檀佛是用梅檀香木雕刻的如来佛像,高五尺有余,鹄立上视,后瞻若仰,前瞻若俯,左手舒而直,右手舒而垂,肘掌皆微弓,服饰色彩古雅,栩栩如生,神态生动逼真。看上去威严而不失慈祥,使人肃然起敬。这尊梅檀佛像是康熙皇帝请来的。当初寺内立有一尊御制碑,详细记载其事。康熙是我国历史上一位颇有作为的封建皇帝,他撰文说:“佛教之兴,其来已久,使人迁善去恶,阴翊德化,不可忽也。”为此,他下令在这里修建了一座规模相当大的寺庙,山门前立有两座
