情境剧以当时当地的情况做戏,使观众将戏剧信以为生活,并进入表演圈;由此演剧活动转为社会活动,演剧的宣传教育鼓动目的完成。情境剧这种对观演关系的追求与谢克纳的环境戏剧具有相通之处,从演剧本身看,情境剧演员的即兴发挥是在掌控全局的前提下的(表演剧团却只能纯粹地随机应变);从形式上看,观众能更自由地参与(环境戏剧常常从物理空间上逼迫观众,使他们不得不参与),但这种参与又是受倾向性的思想意识指引的(谢克纳的环境戏剧却呼吁人们自己来独立思考政治/社会的不合理状况)。
