The Ministry of Health of Singapore is investigating the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) with the assistance of the World Health Organization. This is a new disease caused by SARS-associated coronavirus. It is characterized by atypical pneumonia and severe nosocomial infections. This article will report on the epidemiological characteristics of the SARS outbreak in Singapore, including the effects of super-communicators and national strategies for prevention and control.
