新乡是一个历史厚重的城市,古称牧野,春秋属卫,汉为获嘉,隋文帝开皇六年(586)始置新乡县,至今已有1400余年的历史。仰韶文化、龙山文化遗址依稀可辨,八百诸侯会盟讨纣的牧野大战古迹依存。姜尚卫河垂钓、比干剖心忠谏、张良仗义刺秦、曹魏官渡大捷、赵匡胤黄袍加身等经典史诗都源自这里。作为中原文明起源地之一,更有姜、林、卢、吕、王、孙、毛、封、汲等67个姓氏发源于新乡。新乡下辖卫辉市是河南省历史文化名城,拥有7000多年的文明史
