The purpose of college English education is not only to cultivate students’ability to learn English independently, but al- so to improve their comprehensive cultural literacy to meet the needs of China’s social development and international exchanges. However, teachers have often neglected the cultivation of students ’cultural consciousness because of the influence of traditional teaching mode. This paper proposes that heuristic teaching mode should be adopted. Teachers should focus on students’subjective status in the teaching process and exert external factors to induce students’subjective initiative in cultivating their culture con- sciousness. Therefore, this article will make a concrete analysis of the practical application of heuristic teaching mode in college classrooms from three perspectives: the definition and significance of heuristic teaching, the premise of heuristic teaching, and how to implement it.
