Although his novels can not all fall into the category of “postmodern satirical novel,” there are obvious features of postmodern satire. This article places Reed’s novel creations into Western and Afro-American satire traditions, examining its rebellion against literary traditions, its satirical themes and tactics (parody, stubs, encyclopedia writing, linguistic hybridism, etc.). To re-examine Reid’s work from the angle of postmodern irony, no matter whether it is to clarify the misreading of Reed’s works or to rethink the nature and function of post-modern novels, there is undoubtedly a value that can not be ignored.
