Diabetes mellitus is a hyperglycemic metabolic disorder caused by deficiencies in insulin secretion and / or insulin action. After the success of the Edmonton clinical trial, islet transplantation has become a novel method of treating diabetes. However, pancreatic β-cells are prone to apoptosis or death in the process of in vitro isolation, and long-term in vitro culture or frozen storage can easily lead to the gradual loss of insulin secretion. Therefore, effectively maintaining or improving the survival rate and function of beta cells is crucial for the success of islet transplantation. The methods of in vitro protection of pancreatic β-cells were described, and the prospect of the research was prospected.
