小引上世纪80年代是我国人文精神初步复兴的年代。我所在的作家出版社再版了为历史埋没多年、胡风派作家路翎的长篇小说《燃烧的荒地》,我又选编了他的《路翎小说选》,还为选集写了序(对于序,他是满意的)。随着我对路翎了解的深入,并且沿着他走过的路走了一遍,如苏州、南京、重庆各地,希望写作路翎传记的想法也就越来越浓。路翎对我写传记十分支持。他说,他的记忆不好,手边又没有资料。他让我去找梅志,他给梅志写了一封信,让我交给她,说,一定会得到帮助的。由此开始,我采访了能找到的路翎所有的朋友,很幸运的还找到了路翎的长篇小说《财主底儿女们》的主人公原型蒋继三,获得了许多不为人知的东西。我又查阅了能够找到的所有有关路翎的资料,可以说我对他的一生基本把握,只是监狱那段有些模糊,虽然听取了一些当事人的叙述。于是我请路翎
