Objective To detect the contents of five kinds of heavy metals and harmful elements such as arsenic, mercury, lead, cadmium and copper in the commonly used Chinese medicinal herbs and Pieces of Meizhou, so as to provide a reference for safe drug use. Methods The atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) and atomic fluorescence spectrometry (FAAS) were used to detect the residues of 5 kinds of heavy metals and harmful elements in 33 batches of Chinese traditional medicines and Pieces commonly used in Meizhou. Results 33 batches of samples, one batch of heavy metals exceeded the pass rate of about 97%. Different types of samples of heavy metal pollution vary greatly, the same varieties of different batches of samples of heavy metal pollution differences are also larger. Conclusion The residues of five kinds of heavy metals and harmful elements in the tested drugs are all within the standard limits, but the difference is quite large. The detection of heavy metals and harmful elements residues in local herbs should be strengthened.
