Red emitting phosphor (BaCa)_3 (PO_4)_2∶Ce, Mn was prepared by solid state reactions. Effect of chemical component, preparation conditions on the performance of the phosphor was studied by using TG-DTG, XRD and phosphor relative brightness meter. It is found that the host (Ba_xCa_ 1-x)_3(PO_4)_2 is present as a distorted Ca_3(PO_4)_2 structure. Ce~ 3+ acts as a sensitiser, and Mn~ 2+ is activator. By energy transfer from Ce~ 3+ to Mn~ 2+, Mn~ 2+ is activated and emits red light with wavelength around 650 nm. The phosphor powder shows the highest emitting brightness, when the concentrations of Ce~ 3+and Mn~ 2+ are both at 0.15 mol.
