The symposium on the soil mechanics and foundation engineering on the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and Geotechnical Engineering Symposium was held in Xi’an from October 20 to 23, 1994. This was the largest event for experts and scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to participate in the conference. Representatives attended the conference. There are nearly 200 people on the mainland and 64 on the Taiwan side. The meeting was co-hosted by the China Civil Engineering Society, the Deep Foundation Branch of the China Construction Industry Association, and the Taiwan Foundation’s Foundation for Research and Development of Geotechnical Engineering.
