Estimated natural gas reserves in Indonesia are about 129 trillion cubic feet (3.7 trillion cubic meters) of which only 600-700 trillion cubic feet are stored in the Natuna alone. However, by the mid-1980s most of Indonesia’s major natural gas was located in remote areas and away from residential centers. However, in recent years two large gas fields have been found near the most densely populated Java island in Indonesia. In late 1985, Arco discovered the Kangtan field in the northern Bali block and according to current estimates, it has about 1.4 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves.
