Prices of sawn timber in the United States have risen sharply in the past year as a result of the rebound in new home starts. The current recovery in the housing market is faster than the recovery of the forest products industry from the recession and sawn timber prices are expected to continue to rise in 2013. Random Lengths calculated the combined price of 15 species of lumber to rise from 355 U.S. dollars per thousand board in the second week of November 2012 to 360 U.S. dollars in the last week of November. The same period last year, the price is 266 US dollars per thousand plate feet. Random Lengths The strong rise in composite prices reflects the strong growth in home starts. 10
