Translation is a continuum and can not occur in a vacuum. Therefore, the internal factors of the text and the external factors of the text, such as the social and cultural contexts, constrain the translator and translator to play a certain role in the established cultural environment of an established era. This article is based on a comparative analysis of two translated versions of Jane Eyre in 1930 and 1990 to see how socio-cultural and contextual factors affect the translator’s wording.
