从信息、信息密度的概念和排版等角度,对国家科委1994年颁布的五大类科技期刊质量要求及评估标准中所提出的“信息密度”一指标进行了分析,认为,科技期刊的信息密度作为一项文献计量指标,评价科技期刊是非常有用的,但是该评估标准中对科技期刊信息密度的定义是不够准确的,对科技期刊“信息密度”的准确测量还需要作进一步的研究,因为科技期刊的信息密度的测定有许多模糊因素需要考虑。提出了用篇均页数来代替该评价标准中的信息密度,以测定科技期刊载文量。
