５４６０Ｓ是５４６０的育性单基因突变系，其育性转换具有以温度为主的光温效应的特性．这种不育特性是完全遗传的，稳定的。且具有优良的农艺性状，开花习性好。在数百个配测组合中，已筛选出若干可供生产试验的组合，尤以５４６０Ｓ／明恢６３的株型、产量、抗性、米质、早熟性及制种产量等综合性状显著优于同类三系杂交稻。
