海南省海洋功能区划将东锣岛列在东锣西鼓—龙栖湾旅游休闲娱乐区内,其主导功能用途为旅游娱乐用岛,发展海岛旅游有着很好的前景。最近几年相关单位对东锣岛进行了一定程度的开发建设,引起东锣岛西北岸海滩侵蚀、堆积位置和强度的变化,使得东锣岛西北部沙滩几乎消失。通过对东锣岛附近海域实测数据资料分析,在该岛北部附近海底砂源充足,完全可满足用来东锣岛沙滩恢复。
