志愿者是指不为物质报酬,基于良知、信念和责任,自愿为社会和他人提供服务和帮助的人。无偿献血志愿者是志愿者中的一种,一直以来,无偿献血志愿者为我国的无偿献血事业发展做出了突出的贡献,卫生部医政司副司长周军曾在全国的无偿献血志愿者会上指出,志愿服务工作是近几年无偿献血领域的探索与拓展。志愿者中的大多数既是志愿无偿献血者,又是无偿献血队伍中的中坚和骨干。志愿者这支队伍是非常重要的,是推动我国无偿献血事业健康可持续发展不可忽视的力量。卫生部要求各地重视无偿献血志愿者在无偿献血中的作用,要不断壮大这个队伍,让其成为无偿献血宣传的重要力量。
