因其父惯好绘画书法,刘毅自幼耳濡目染,饱受书画氛围熏陶,小学时段便研墨攥刀刻章。初中时,篆刻蒙燕守谷先生(山东省书协副主席)教诲,多有长进。2000年,师从张羽翔先生(中央美术学院博士暨中国艺术研究院研究员)研习书法又主攻山水画至今。在30多年的艺业砥砺中,刘毅渐趋喜欢上了《明画录》“丝丹缕素,精丽艳逸”的风格,这和张大千的青绿山水画有异曲同工之妙。
