Objective To investigate the expression of Survivin and p53 in non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) and to explore its role in the occurrence and development of NHL. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of Survivin and p53 protein in 54 cases of NHL and 10 cases of reactive hyperplasia lymph node paraffin embedded tissues. Results The positive rates of Survivin and p53 in NHL tissues were 51.9% (28/54) and 40.7% (22/54) respectively. The expression of Survivin protein and its positive cell density gradually increased with the increase of malignant degree of NHL. The expression of Survivin in low grade malignant group was lower than that in moderate-high grade group (19%, 4/21, respectively) 72.7% (24/33), with significant difference between the two groups (P <0.001). Survivin expression in p53-positive group was significantly higher than that in p53-negative group, and there was a significant correlation between Survivin and p53 expression (P <0.05). Conclusion The abnormal expression of Survivi may promote the malignant proliferation of NHL. Survivin is closely related to abnormal expression of p53 protein in the pathogenesis of NHL. Intervention of molecular level of Survivin protein expression may improve radiotherapy and chemotherapy of lymphoma.
