近几年来,戏剧界同人都在喊“创新”,然而奇怪的是,在1988年的剧坛上,偏偏是一出“不创新”的《天下第一楼》走了红运。为什么在探索戏剧逐步走向成熟、已经出现了《狗儿爷涅槃》、《桑树坪纪事》这样比较成功的剧作之时,《天下第一楼》会引起轰动呢?这确实是令人深思的一种戏剧现象。尽管评论界对此褒贬不一,但是,不管怎么说,这毕竟是一件令人高兴的事情。尤其是在目前话剧“不景气”的状况下,它的出现,不仅是对那些从事戏剧工作的人们以及关心戏剧事业发展的人们是一种安慰,而且更主要的是,它的轰动可以促使我们去反思近几年来的戏剧改革运动,进而去思考今后戏剧运动发展的进路。
