Despite its long standing position in the market for large database servers running on supercomputer systems, Oracle is now turning to miniaturized database products, especially for handheld PCs. In mid-June, Oracle demonstrated to the public the cutting-edge technology it has partnered with 3Com to connect 3Com’s PalmPilot and Palm III handheld PCs to Oracle’s database. Oracle is demonstrating this latest technology by letting users of Palm III and PalmPilot personally use it. For example, they have direct access to the company’s database at the sales site, and new information can be added to the database on the same day and kept in sync with the company’s database server. The first product planned to be released by both parties is a development tool package
