《塞维利亚死在马德里》以一名被社会遗忘、几乎得不到他人关爱的小人物的成长经历和走向死亡的全过程为主线,借助他中彩一事,反映了不同社会阶层、不同年龄层的人物的生活状况和心理。塞维利亚这一形象塑造得尤为成功,作者要通过他把人生黑洞洞的深渊揭开给人看。小说在叙述角度和方式、人称等方面都有创意。叙事层面复杂,但散而不乱。故事情节及人物的跳跃性安排,作品的妄想成分和某种幻想都值得思索、品味。
