Objective: To investigate the effect of chewing chewing gum on blood donation in first-time donors. Methods: A total of 2,041 donors from May to September 2013 were divided into two groups according to their blood donation dates: 1 086 in the observation group and 955 in the control group. The control group was performed routine routine blood sampling. The observation group was divided into two groups according to routine blood sampling procedure At the same time to chewing chewing gum, observed and compared two groups blood donation response rate. Results: The blood reaction rates in the observation group and the control group were 0.83% and 6.07%, respectively. There was significant difference between the two groups (χ2 = 44.02, P <0.01). Conclusion: Chewing chewing gum when donating blood for the first time donors can effectively prevent the occurrence of blood donation reaction and is suitable for preventing unpaid blood donation.
